Main Street Christmas Light Decorating
A bright, fresh look has illuminated streets in Plaquemine as part of a new Christmas lighting system the Plaquemine Main Street Program recently put into place for the Yuletide season.
Plaquemine's Main Street Program recently purchased new Christmas decorations for The City of Plaquemine Historic District and Main Street District areas. The new decor has provided a fresh look for the pole decor that has been used for many years, according to Main Street Program Director Charley Robinson.
"The residents and visitors to Our City will now be able to enjoy the Seasonal Decor upon entering and exiting our downtown," he said.
LED snowflakes illuminate Eden Street, while Church Street will have LED holly leaves. LED wreathes shine along Railroad Avenue, while Main Street has LED poinsettias all in red, green, and white lights."
Plaquemine's longtime Yuletide tradition will continue this year when the "All Is Bright, A Hometown Christmas" event is held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 in the downtown area.
The free annual event is held along Railroad Avenue in the Heart of the Plaquemine Historic District and Plaquemine Main Street area.
"This family friendly event is growing each year with vendors participating from all around the state," Robinson said Charley Robinson.
Local vendors and businesses will participate and feature handmade items, arts and crafts, jewelry and more.
Food, Christmas music and rides for the kids will add to the festivities at this year's event.
"It's a great opportunity for residents to come out and enjoy a Hallmark-style Saturday evening with the family, meet with old friends, and make new ones," Robinson said.
Those who attend the Christmas event can also check out the Historic Mississippi River Lock Museum, beautiful St John Catholic Church, which is also known as "The Cathedral on the Bayou," the Old City Hall Museum (circa 1848), and the city's award-winning Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park and Pavilion.
